The new mentor group on BT (beginnertriathlete.com) is already having a bad influence on me. It has been pretty cold here the last few weeks (mostly 20's and 30's) and I have not been running. I have been keeping my workouts indoors. Hence all of the bike and gym workouts lately. One guy was on there talking about how it was 7 degrees outside on his run and another chimed in that it was -35 for his. These guys are from Minnesota and Canada. I told them they guilted me into it and I was going to run this morning. I picked the perfect day as it was 14 degrees outside when I started this run. I don't know how those guys do it and can only figure it is a matter of becoming acclimatized to the cold. This run was horrible. My lungs were burning from the cold and my ears were aching. Not like hurting on the outside, but like an actual ear ache on the inside. Nose was running and mouth was slobbering. I just had to stop at 1.71 miles and call it quits. I'll keep trying to work in the cold weather runs as I don't have access to a treadmill at this point, but hope I can get used to them as this run wasn't exactly productive.
