Hottest day of the year so far (99 degrees) and boy did I decide to lose my mind. Thought I would go out and ride 25 miles in the heat to work my endurance and heat acclimation. Well I started off strong and once I got to the 12.5 mile turnaround point I felt like I could push it out another 2.5 miles to make it into a 30 mile ride. I did, but it made for a tough ride back. I hadn't realized that I was riding out with a tailwind so the second half of this ride was significantly tougher than the first part. Regardless, I kept with it and never stopped. I was covered in sweat and salt when I got back and was very weak and somewhat light headed. Despite drinking about 40 ounces of fluids on this ride I still lost 5 pounds of weight. It felt good to have worked hard and turn in a new distance PR of 29.89 miles. Not sure I'll be topping this one for awhile as it is only going to get hotter as we move further along into summer.
